I am deeply disturbed by the ongoing reports of law enforcement officers being killed in the line of duty. This week, we mourn the loss of members from the CMPD and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, who were fatally shot while serving a warrant. These senseless acts of violence need to stop. Our law enforcement officers are being targeted and killed merely for fulfilling their responsibilities. It is crucial that we come up with effective ways to protect those who commit themselves to our safety, particularly in New York State, where legislation favors criminals and makes it difficult for law enforcement officers to perform their duties.
